The Women's Artistic Gymnastics at the 2016 Aquece Rio Olympic Test Event gets underway at the Rio Olympic Arena today. The top four teams from today's competition qualify full teams to compete at the Olympics whilst other gymnasts are hoping to qualify as Individuals. Additional participants from already qualified teams are competing to garner further competition experience. Romania's Maria Holbura, who was originally listed as the reserve comes into the side to replace Andreea Iridon. Austria's Elisa Haemmerle was injured during podium training - suffering an Achilles injury - and is replaced by team mate Jasmin Mader. Algeria's Farah Boufadene who is an automatic qualifier to the upcoming Olympics based on the Universality clause will only be competing on Balance Beam. Marisa Dick will be replacing her Trinidad and Tobago compatriot Thema Williams. In what has been a crazy twenty-four hours with reported talk of legal action, Williams has been replaced in the event due to an ankle injury in which she has been nursing which has not improved. The decision has been at such a final hour that Marisa Dick's coaches were unable to obtain the necessary VISA required and Dick will be coached in Rio by Trinidad and Tobago Gymnastic Federation representative Ricardo Lue Shue. Farah Boufadene did not compete.

Romania decides after counting a fall to not put up their fifth gymnast, Silvia Zarzu on the Uneven Bars. It was a rough morning for Romania who after the first subdivision sit in second behind Australia. Hungary's first year Senior Zsofia Kovacs leads the All Around over China's ZHANG Jin with Australian Emma-Jane Nedov in third. India's Dipa Karmakar leads the Vault qualification convincingly after receiving a massive 15.066 for her Produnova. Australian Emily Little sits in second over Poland's Gabriela Janik. Australian Larrissa Miller topped the Uneven Bars over compatriots Rianna Mizzen and Georgia-Rose Brown. Romanian Catalina Ponor provided the top scoring routines on the Balance Beam and Floor (a definite shining light for the team that really seemed to implode). Her compatriot Diana Laura Bulimar was the second top scorer on the Balance Beam over Poland's Katarzyna Jurkowska-Kowalska (if you haven't seen her Beam routine then I suggest you do)! Miller was the second top scorer on the Floor Exercise over Bulimar.

The second rotation sees the teams from Brazil and Switzerland as well as two star studded mixed groups. Only four gymnasts from Switzerland went up on the Floor Exercise and Vault - Stefanie Siegenthaler did not contest the apparatus. N.B. After 48 hours of next to no sleep, I finally succumbed. Headed into the final subdivision Brazil lead the team competition over Germany. A massive delay to the start of Subdivision Four due to technical difficulties. Brazil, Germany, Belgium and France all earned team berths to the Olympics. Switzerland's Giulia Steingruber topped the All Around standings over Brazil's Flavia Lopes Saraiva with Germany's Tabea Alt in third. India's Dipa Karmakar topped the Vault qualification over Mexico's Alexa Citlali Moreno Medina and Uzbekistan's Oksana Chusovitina. Germany's Elisabeth Seitz and Sophie Scheder went 1-2 respectively on the Uneven Bars with Frenchwoman Loan His in third. Romanian Catalina Ponor's 0.2 higher in execution saw her top the Balance Beam over Dutchwoman Sanne Wevers. Flavia Lopes Saraiva was third. Steingruber was the top scorer on the Floor Exercise over Ponor and Lopes Saraiva.
