Gymmin' Miel!

Portuguese Gymnast Gustavo Palma Simoes has been forced to withdraw for the upcoming 2016 Olympic Games after a fall on the 9th of July saw him unfortunately fracturing his left foot. The Portuguese Gymnastics Federation stated that "It is a type of injury that will require surgical resolution at some point but there is good potential for full functional recovery. However given the proximity of the Olympic Games, we can not in any way treat him and get him back in time to participate in the competition". This means that the original first reserve Argentina's Nicolas Cordoba has been called up and is set to compete at his first Olympics. Of interesting note is that Cordoba's inclusion sees the Argentinian Olympic delegation rise to 213 athletes - matching the record who competed at the 1948 London Olympic Games. Australia's Michael Mercieca now moves up to the first reserve position with Puerto Rico's Luis Rivera now being the second reserve.

The Event Finals at the 2012 Senior South American Gymnastics Championships have concluded. Brazilian Adrian Geovana Nunes Gomes took out the Women's Uneven Bars and Floor Exercise finals with her compatriot Juliana Chaves Santos and Belen Stoeffel of Argentina earning the silver and bronze medals respectively on the Uneven Bars, whilst on the Floor Exercise, Argentinian Valeria Pereyra and Chile's Barbara Achondo Andino shared the silver medal. Chile's Barbara Achondo Andino dominated the Vault final with Brazilians Leticia Stephanie Lima da Costa and Adrian Geovana Nunes Gomes rounding out the medals. Whilst on the Balance Beam, Gomes dominated over Belen Stoeffel (Argentina) and Panama's Isabella Amado Medrano. Peru's Ana Lucia Sarango Castillo replaced Chile's Barbara Achondo Andino in the Balance Beam final. 

In the Men's competition, Argentina's Federico Molinari won the gold medal on the Still Rings with Henrique Flores of Brazil and fellow Argentinian Osvaldo Martinez Erazun picking up the remaining medals for the Event. On the Horizontal Bar, Brazilian Francisco Carlos Barretto Junior earned the gold medal, while Nicolas Cordoba (Argentina) and Arthur Nory Oyakawa Mariano (Brazil) were second and third respectively. And on the Floor Exercise, Mariano topped Chile's Juan Pablo Gonzalez Valenzuela and Caio Campos Souza for the title. On the Still Rings David Figueroa Aguirre of Peru replaced compatriot Jose Quilla Rivera in the Still Rings final. Argentinian Juan Manuel Lompizano won the Pommel Horse title with Colombian Javier Sandoval Afanador and Brazilian Barretto Junior rounding out the placings. Campos Souza won the Vault title with Chile's Juan Pablo Gonzalez Valenzuela and Mariano of Brazil rounding out the top three. Colombian Afanador won the Parallel Bars title with Molinari and Barretto Junior also earning the medals. 

The Brazilian Men's Team (Arthur Nory Oyakawa Mariano, Francisco Carlos Barretto Junior, Lucas De Souza Bitencourt, Caio Campos Souza, Pericles Fouro da Silva and Henrique Flores) has captured the Team Title at the XI South American Senior Artistic Gymnastics Championships. Argentina captured the silver medal, whilst the Peruvian contingent captured the bronze medal. Barretto Junior won the All Around title, whilst his compatriots Lucas De Souza Bitencourt and Arthur Nory Oyakawa Mariano tied for second. Mariano topped the Floor Exercise (tied with Caio Campos Souza) and Vault standings, whilst Francisco Carlos Barretto Junior was the highest scorer on the Pommel Horse (tied with Pericles Fouro da Silva) and Horizontal Bar and Pericles Fouro da Silva rocked the Parallel Bars. Argentina's Federico Molinari was the top on the Still Rings.

The Argentinian Women's team, consisting of Belen Stoeffel, Valeria Pereyra, Ailen Valente, Merlina Galera, Camila Ambrosio and Camila Klesa have been named the 2012 South American Team Champions, topping Brazil and Chile in the process. Brazilian Adrian Geovana Nunes Gomes won the All Around title and is also the highest scorer to both the Balance Beam and Floor Exercise finals. Lone Colombian gymnast Melba Yurany Avendano Romero finished second in the All Around with Argentina's Belen Stoeffel earning the bronze medal. Chile's Barbara Achondo Andino was the top scorer to the Vault Final, whilst Brazilian Juliana Chaves Santos topping the Uneven Bars standings.

The XI South American Gymnastics Championships for Senior Men and Women Artistic Gymnastics will take place from the 8th to the 11th of November in Rosario, Argentina. The competition will be taking place at the Atletico Provincial Stadium with participation hoped from all invited nations - Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela and of course the host nation Argentina. The 2012 Junior Pan American Gymnastics Championships (Pan Americano Juvenil de Gimnasia Ritmica) will take place from the 28th of August to the 2nd of September in Cordoba Capital, Argentina at the Orfeo Superdomeo. Gymnasts aged 13 to 15 years of age (born in 1997, 1998 and 1999) will be representing their respective nations. Over seventy gymnasts from the following nations will be in action: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Puerto Rico, United States, and Venezuela.
