Gymmin' Miel!

And it's go time. The first day of Senior Women's competition at the 2014 P&G National Championships in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I am loving the leotards in this rather smallish field. Most of them we saw at the 2014 Secret U.S. Classic but I am not fussed they are still stunning! The Great American Gymnastics Express leotards are currently my favourite - loving them!! Solid routine from Madison Desch to start. Solid Beam routine for Skinner. Sensational routine on Bars - packed with difficulty for Brenna Dowell. I am super excited to see Veronica Hults competing here this weekend. Same goes with Amelia Hundley. Ashton Locklear's Bars routine is gorgeous. After the first rotation, Locklear (who is only competing two events) leads over Biles and Dowell (who is only doing one event). Oh no Kyla Ross sits down in a deep squat on her first tumbling pass. At the halfway mark Biles leads over Locklear and Madison Kocian (both Locklear's and Kocian's competition has been completed for the day). Headed into the final rotation, Simone Biles leads over MyKayla Skinner and Kyla Ross. From my point of view it looked like Kyla was short on some of her handstands - wow 13.950 for Ross. Maggie Nichols and Alyssa Baumann are above her in the standings! Superb routine for Biles. And at the conclusion of the first day of competition, Biles leads over Maggie Nichols and Alyssa Baumann. Ross is in fourth and Skinner in fifth.

The Junior and Senior Women's Artistic Gymnastics fields for the 2014 P&G National Championships have been announced. The Championships will take place from the 21st to the 24th of August at the CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A total of 16 Seniors and 37 Juniors are set to compete. At the 2013 P&G Championships, Simone Biles won the Senior All Around title over Kyla Ross and Brenna Dowell, and most recently Biles dominated at the Secret U.S. Classic topping the Senior All Around, Vault and Floor Exercise standings and tying with Ross for the Balance Beam high score. Ashton Locklear absolutely dominated on the Uneven Bars. Ross finished second in the All Around standings with Maggie Nichols finishing in third. Jordan Chiles high scored on the Vault on the way to taking out the Junior All Around title over Nia Dennis. Norah Flatley and Deanne Soza tied for third place. Dennis was top on the Uneven Bars with Flatley topping the Balance Beam standings. Ragan Smith of Texas Dreams Gymnastics was the high scorer on the Floor Exercise. It should be an absolutely fantastic competition!!

North Carolina State University earned their first title since 2009 taking the East Atlantic Gymnastics League Championships team title by 0.075 over the University of Maryland. The University of Pittsburgh finished third. Alyssa Adrian of the University of Pittsburgh took out the All Around title with Betsy Zander (GWU), Kayla Gray (UNH) and North Carolina State's Stephanie Ouellette who tied for second. Maryland's Ally Krikorian won the Vault honors with North Carolina State's Rachel Fincham taking out the Uneven Bars title. New Hampshire's Kayla Gray and NC State's Stephanie Ouellette took out the Balance Beam and Floor Exercise respectively.
