Condolences to the Burger Family

7:57 PM

On behalf of my readers, I would like to express my sincere condolences to the Burger family on the tragic and sudden loss of Martinus. I was actually looking for the results of the 2011 Namibian Championships, in researching for an upcoming post when I saw the news. Martinus was the Level 9 MAG Champion for 2011 and was a very promising up-and-comer for Namibia. According to news posted on the official Gymnastics Federation, early in the afternoon on the November 13th, 2011 a bad car accident occurred when a tyre burst just outside of Otjiwarongo where the family was returning in order to attend a special church service. The following is how Venter-President NGF Valereis Geldenhuys described the young man.

I need to inform you all with a very sad heart that our Lord has come to fetch Young, talented and a definite child of God to Himself. Martinus Burger has made and left such a mark in our lives and he will be dearly missed. He was one of our finalists of our NGF sports awards and shared his last performances with us on Saturday, He excelled and with so much enthusiasm and excitement has left such a void in our gymnastic and Otjiwarongo community. We will miss him dearly especially during Zone VI in December where he was already selected top represent Namibia for NGF.
On this weekend Martinus won a Sports Award at the Top 6 Invitational Competition held in Walvisbay. This is an extract of the motivation for Martinus Burger's Sports Award Nomination:MARTINUS IS A VERY HARD WORKER WHO HAS TO TRAIN WITHOUT ANY PROFESSIONAL COACHES. TOTALY ON HIS OWN! COACH BOGDAN IS THE ONLY PERSON WHO HELPS HIM WITH SOME TECHNIQUES OR ROUTINES AND WHO GIVES HIM ADVICE. BUT THEN HE MUST GET TO WINDHOEK WHEN/IF THERE IS TIME IN HIS BUSY SCHOOL SCHEDULE. IN 2010 AT THE NATIONAL COMPETITION IN WINDHOEK, MARTINUS WAS 4TH IN LEVEL 7. IT WAS A VERY DIFFICULT YEAR FOR HIM.GROWING UP AND SUCH..THIS YEAR MARTINUS DECIDED TO TRY FOR LEVEL 9, AND STARTED TO WRITE HIS OWN ROUTINES.DURING THE 1ST QUALIFYINGS, HE CAME SECOND WITH A TOTAL OF 50.25(8.38). IN THE 2ND QUALIFYINGS, HE CAME SECOND WITH A TOTAL OF 54.5(9.08). HE TRAINED HARD AND WAS NOW AIMING FOR THE GOLD AT THE NATIONALS. THEN AT THE NATIONALS MARTINUS WON HIS GOLD. TOTAL 63.00(10.50).HE ALSO WON THE TITLE OF NATIONAL CHAMP IN LEVEL 9.MARTINUS IS ALSO A MAG COACH FOR OUR LEVEL ONE BOYS TEAM AND A GREAT INSPIRATION FOR AL THE GYMNASTS IN OUR CLUB. HE IS ALWAYS FRIENDLY, HELPFULL AND HAS A VERY POSITIVE ATITUDE.WE THINK THAT MARTINUS MADE A GREAT IMPROVEMENT THROUGH THIS YEAR AND WOULD LIKE TO NOMINATE HIM FOR THIS CATEGORY.WELL DONE, MARTINUS.PETRUS J. BURGERPRESIDENT of Club...a marvellous and inspiring testimony for Martinus. May we all hold him dear to usRiaan Burger, his father is in Hospital as well as his Mother Elana Burger.
