On the Twelfth Day of Christmas, Gymnastics Brought to Me: A Colombian Superstar!

Image courtesy of FIG. No denying that there is something amazing about Jessica Gil Ortiz. I remember watching her back in 2007 live at the Pan American Games and then again at the World Championships later that year and thinking that Jessica will go far! And we have not been disappointed. Gil Ortiz trains at Universal Gymnastics under head coach Maria Gonzalez. At the Puerto Rico Cup she won the Senior All Around title, scoring 53.299 and was second on Vault (Average of 14.200) and Balance Beam (13.350) and first on the Floor Exercise (13.875). In Lugar, Chile at the 10th South American Championships, Jessica was a member of the fourth place team which scored 201.650, and came eighth in the All Around (51.750), 5th on Vault (scoring 12.650, 13.875) for an average of 13.263, and was 1st on the Floor Exercise with 13.400. A member of the Fourth place team at the 2011 Pan American Games, Gil went on to finish ninth in the All Around (14.175, 12.075, 13.500, 12.900) for a total of 52.650, and also finished 5th on the Vault (13.800, 13.975) for an average of 13.887 and was eighth in the Balance Beam, scoring 11.800 where she unfortunately counted a fall. Excitingly, Jessica is on the Nominative Roster for the Olympic Test Event, and I wish her all the best!
