Gymmin' Miel!

After the first subdivision, Canada is in the lead from Japan and Russia, whilst Japanese Junior Sakura Yumoto leads the Junior ranking over Russians Maria Kharenkova and Ekaterina Baturina whilst for the Seniors, it is currently a Canadian sweep of the major places - Christine Lee, Kristina Vaculik and Victoria Moors respectively. Christine Lee also scored the highest on Uneven Bars (14.550) and Balance Beam (14.950), whilst Victoria Moors scored top marks on the Floor Exercise (14.750). For the Juniors, Yumoto top scored on the Uneven Bars (13.250), with Kharenkova topping the Beam (14.000) and Floor Exercise (13.900). Sending best wishes on a speedy recovery to Australian Georgia Simpson who has dislocated her ankle and to Gabrielle Douglas who withdrew from the Floor Exercise after tweaking her ankle on the Vault.

Overall the USA Women were triumphant, winning the Team Title, Senior All Around title (Jordyn Wieber) and Junior All Around (Katelyn Ohashi). The United States also took the Silvers in the Junior and Senior All Around (Lexie Priessman and Kyla Ross respectively). For the Seniors, Canadian Christine Lee won the bronze, whilst fellow USA Gymnast Amelia Hundley was third, but because of the two-per-country rule, the award went to Japan's Sakura Yumoto. In terms of the Event Finals, for the Seniors, Hong Kong starlet Hiu Ying Angel Wong topped the Vault standings, whilst Americans Gabrielle Douglas and Jordyn Wieber topped the Uneven Bars and Balance Beam standings respectively. Australian Lauren Mitchell was the highest scorer on the Floor Exercise, taking the lead over Canadian Vicoria Moors by 0.100. For the Juniors, I am unsure on the Vault rankings as the results from USAG only list one Vault. American Katelyn Ohashi, topped the remaining events, with Lexie Priessman also qualifying second highest to the Bars and third highest to the Balance Beam finals, with Amelia Hundley also qualifying second highest to the Floor final. Good luck to all who have made the Event Finals and those who competed today.

Gymnastics Australia has announced the Women who will compete at the Pacific Rim Gymnastics Championships in Everett, Washington on the 17th and 18th of March and those who will compete at the Gymnix competition in Montreal, Canada from the 8th to 11th of March. At the Pacific Rim Selection trial, Western Australian Emily took out the Senior All Around, whilst Victorian Alexandra Eade took out the Juniors.

STOP PRESS: According to today's West Australian newspaper which you can read online here. Emily won the All Around in her combined total from both days and also on Day One of the trial, whilst Georgia Simpson topped score in the All Around on Day Two! Lauren Mitchell scored the highest marks on Floor and Balance Beam. Martine George also said that

Mitchell is talented across both areas but has had a bit of a problem with her shoulder and has eased off on training to make sure she is fit and healthy for the competitions. However, she has overcome an ankle injury from last year's world championships in Tokyo in October, when she was unable to defend her title on the floor.
"We are bedding down last year's upgrades for Lauren but her competition program should be ready to go by the end of February," George said.
