NCAA Women's Gymnastics: 5th January Results

Another five meets took place tonight. Ohio State University won over Bowling Green State University at the Anderson Arena on the Bowling Green State campus. Ohio State Junior Melanie Shaffer won the All Around, competing all four events since her Freshman year. Fellow Ohio State Junior Sarah Miller won the Vault title, whilst team mates Colleen Dean, Alyssa Marohn and Melanie Shaffer tied for the Uneven Bars honors. Miller also took out the Balance Beam and Floor Exercise honors. Standouts for Bowling Green State were Megan Harrington, Jamilah Ali and Amanda Lievendag.

The Central Michigan University Chippewas dominated in their season opening win at home against the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire. The Chippewas also took out all the Individual titles on offer. Central Michigan Sophomore Becca Druien was the only gymnast from either team to contest all four events. CMU Freshman Kirsten Petzold won the Vault title in her first collegiate meet, whilst her older sister Brittany, Meaghan McWhorter and Emily Heinz tied for second place on the event. Emily LaFontaine won the Uneven Bars title whilst Halle Moraw won on the Balance Beam and Floor Exercise. Elizabeth Stubbs and Julia Stedman were standout performers for Wisconsin - Eau Claire.

 The University of Oklahoma won against the University of Georgia. Georgia led after three rotations but could not hold on for victory. Oklahoma Junior Taylor Spears won the All Around title over team mates Brie Olson and Keeley Kmieciak. Georgia's Cat Hires won the Vault title, while on  the Uneven Bars it was a four way tie between Georgia's Chelsea Davis, and Oklahoma's Haley Scaman, Brie Olson and Taylor Spears. Shayla Worley of Georgia won the Balance Beam title with Scaman taking out the Floor Exercise honors.

University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh won over Hamline University. Hamline University's Courtney Benson who was a standout performer for the Pipers won the All Around honors as well as the Floor Exercise title with her team mate Kambria Blakely (another standout) taking out the Vault title. Oshkosh's Courtney Howard took out the Uneven Bars whilst Krystal Walker won the Balance Beam title.

 The University of Denver succeeded at home to win the tri-meet over Penn State University and  Lindenwood University. Sharaya Musser of Penn State University won the All Around title over Moriah Martin of Denver and fellow Nittany Lion Alexis Carroll. Penn State's Madison Merriam won the Vault title over teammates Carroll and Musser who tied for second. Denver's Nina McGee won on the Uneven Bars with Musser and her team mate Samantha Musto tying for second. Jorie Hall of Denver won the Beam honors with team members Ellese Sakai-Hart and Melodi Pulgarin Linero tying for second. McGee and Musser tied for the Floor Exercise title.
