And the Women's NCAA Gymnastics season is underway!

The first four meets of the first week of the NCAA Women's Gymnastics were contested last night. I spent the night at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center at the University of Florida, watching the Gators open the season with a commanding performance over Ball State University. It was a fantastic competition to mark the start of the season for the Gators with their gymnasts scooping all the titles on offer. Florida's Bridget Sloan impressed in the first meet of her collegiate career whilst Mackenzie Caquatto, Kytra Hunter and Randy Stageberg also impressed. Freshman Denaisha Christian of Ball State, had a great first meet, and I must say that it is great to see Brittney Emmons who is is in her fifth year of NCAA eligibility competing the All Around.

Louisiana State University also dominated their opener against North Carolina State at home in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Sophomore Rheagan Courville of LSU took out the All Around honors as well as the Balance Beam and Floor Exercise honors, with team mate Sarie Morrison earning the Vault and Uneven Bars titles. Louisiana's Freshman Jessica Savona made a solid debut for the team tying for third on Vault and second on the Balance Beam and finishing third on the Floor Exercise. Junior Diahanna Ham was a standout performer for North Carolina State. 

The Cancun Classic saw the University of Michigan take out the team title with their highest team total since 2011. Brigham Young University finished second with Oregon State in third. Michigan's Joanna Sampson, Sachi Sugiyama and Katie Zurales went 1-2-3 in the All Around. Sampson picked up the Vault title, whilst Sugiyama, Sampson and Brigham Young Junior Raquel Willman tied for the honors on the Uneven Bars. Zurales picked up the Balance Beam title while Sugiyama also took out the Floor Exercise. Willman and fellow Junior Megan Bain were standout performers from Brigham Young, whilst for Oregon State University, Hailey Gaspar, Melanie Jones and Makayla Stambaugh were shining lights.

The NorCal Quad meet, held at The Event Center on the San Jose State University campus was won by Stanford University, with San Jose State finishing in second place with UC Davis beating out Sacramento State for third. Sacramento State Sophomore Kallilah McCartney won the All Around title over San Jose's Cami Guyer and Sacramento State Freshman Cassie Benning. Stanford Senior Nicole Dayton topped team mates Ivana Hong and Melissa Chuang for the Vault title, whilst on the Uneven Bars Stanford's Ashley Morgan tied with UC Davis' Michelle Ho for the title. Kristina Vaculik and Amanda Spinner both of Stanford tied for the Balance Beam honors, whilst San Jose State Junior Julia Greer took out the Floor title.
