Senior MAG Day Two of P&G Champs - Results, National Team AND WORLDS TEAM
9:26 AM
The Senior Men's session at the 2013 P&G Championships was a fantastic morning/afternoon of Gymnastics. Sean Melton (USOTC) withdrew from today's competition after suffering a concussion during the first day. Seven lucky gymnasts who competed in the Junior division on the first day qualified to compete in the Senior division, with an opportunity to contend for places on the Senior Men's National Team. I think we can safely say that we saw the Samuel Mikulak show on Friday. He topped the All Around standings in style over Jacob Dalton (University of Oklahoma) and Alexander Naddour (USA Youth Fitness Center).
After the first rotation, Mikulak lead by 2.750 points from Jake Dalton. Joshua Dixon sits in third. Thrilled with Paul Ruggeri's start on the Horizontal Bar. And after the second rotation Mikulak was in the leaf by 4.0 points over Alexander Naddour and Jacob Dalton. Results remained unchanged at the halfway point. After the fourth rotation Mikulak lead by 4.050 points from Dalton. Naddour was in third. With one rotation to go it was Mikulak over Naddour. Dalton's mishap on the Pommel Horse dropped him to third. And it ended up being the Sam Mikulak extravaganza with him winning the title by 2.9 over Alexander Naddour with Jake Dalton finishing in third. Steven Legendre won the Floor Exercise title over Paul Ruggeri III and Jake Dalton. Special congratulations to Colin Van Wicklen who finished seventh on the apparatus. Van Wicklen was one of the seven Juniors who competed in the Senior session on Sunday, and his Floor Exercise is a must see. Alexander Naddour won the Pommel Horse title over Luke Stannard (University of Illinois) and Michael Newburger (Ohio State University). Brandon Wynn won the Still Rings title over Naddour and Michael Squires of the University of Oklahoma. I quite enjoyed watching the top three compete on the Still Rings and if you haven't already check out their routines. Sean Senters (Stanford University) tied with Eddie Penev for the Vault title with Paul Ruggeri finishing in third. Mikulak topped the Parallel Bars over John Orozco and Akash Modi of Monmouth Gymnastics. Mikulak also won the Horizontal Bar with Orozco and Danell Leyva rounding out the top three.
The 2012 Awards were also presented with Universal Gymnastics Yin Alvarez and Danell Leyva winning the Coach of the Year and Athlete of the Year respectively. Sam Mikulak picked up the Sportsperson of the Year. Congratulations to all.
