Day 2 Event Finals at World Champs

9:51 PM

Welcome to the final day of competition at the 2014 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. Today sees the last of the Event Finals being contended - the Men compete on the Vault, Parallel Bars and Horizontal Bar with the Women competing on the Balance Beam and Floor Exercise. First up the Men's Vault final... can YANG Hak Seon of Korea defend his title? Kenzo Shirai leaned to the side on his Yurchenko triple twist for his first Vault and was a little low on his Kas 1.5. Massive Dragulescu for Sergio Sasaki Junior, little low on the landing. Two hops back on his Tsuk double pike. Wai Hung Shek landed to the side on his Dragulescu and Step to the side on his Kas double full. Oh wow YANG Hak Seon sits down his Kas 2.5 and put his hand and knee down on the landing of his front handspring triple twist. Massive piked Dragulescu from RI Se Gwang with a step back. Tsuk full in tuck for his second Vault, out of the lines with both feet. Coach carries his off the podium. Icing his injured ankle. Huge step back from Jake Dalton on his Kas double full. Low on the landing of his Randi. Massive vaults from Igor Radivilov (Dragulescu and Tsuk double pike). And last but not least Denis Ablyazin. Over rotated double pike with a number of steps back and crashed his Yurchenko half on Randi off. RI Se Gwang from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is the 2014 Vault Champion!! Ukraine's Igor Radivilov wins the silver with American Jacob Dalton earning the bronze.

Moving on to Women's Beam. Oooohhh I love today's U.S. Event Finals leotard. BAI Yawen is wearing a mostly dark aqua? leotard with black top/sleeves with yellow and white swirly patterning with diamantes. Very pretty. Aliya wearing the lucky purpley/blue leotard we have become accustomed to seeing her wear. BAI is so clean on the Beam. Small step on her double pike dismount. Solid routine from Simone Biles just a couple of balance checks within the routine but nothing major - Love her ff-ff full in dismount which she stuck. Mustafina looks exhausted. Loses 0.5 for not having an acro series in the routine. Stunning purple leotard from YAO Jinnan. She falls on her acro series. Lovely double pike dismount. Elsabeth Black is wearing a lovely red leotard with the maple leaf in diamantes. Solid routine but unfortunately fell on her ff tuck full. Larisa Andreea Iordache is wearing a dark aqua leotard with black on the shoulder and sleeves and diamantes. And wow another fall (ff tuck full). The Brazilians? (or are they the Colombians?) with Romanian scarves! A few bobbles but a solid routine from Kyla Ross. Asuka Teramoto is wearing that colorful leotard. Gorgeous routine from her! Inquiry over the score rejected. Simone Biles is the Balance Beam Champion over BAI Yawen with Aliya Mustafina winning the bronze medal.

Now that the Award Ceremonies for the first two events are complete it's onto the Parallel Bars Final. Nikolai Kuksenkov short on his giant Diamondiv (sp.) tries to save it but his feet touched the ground. Hands down on his double front half dismount. Great routine from DENG Shudi. He swings really well only fault I could see is that he was low on his Bhavsar. Very clean routine from Ryohei Kato of Japan. Another great routine - this time from Ukraine's Oleg Verniaiev. This is one fantastic final!! Glad to see Yusuke Tanaka still smiling despite having a huge arch in one of his handstands in the middle of the routine. Solid routine from CHENG Ran. Muscled on his peach on one bar and had to take a number of steps backwards on his double pike dismount. Great routine from Danell Leyva. Nervy performance from Donnell Whittenburg. Ukraine's Oleg Verniaiev takes the title over Leyva and Kato.

It's Floor time!! Claudia Fragapane wears a blue leotard with white sleeves, yellow cross across the top with diamantes. Vanessa Ferrari is wearing a stunning leotard. Very shiny - white with red? and black... it's hard to describe but you must see it!!! Larrissa Miller is wearing the purple and black leotard we saw Georgia Rose-Brown wear in the All Around, whilst Erika Fasana is is a purple and black leotard with busy white patterning and diamantes. Poor Fragapane bounds out of her opening pass and lands on her stomach. Low on her double Arabian. Lovely routine from Larisa Andreea Iordache - Well executed. A couple of hops on the landings of Simone's tumbling passes but a great routine otherwise. Love Vanessa Ferrari's Floor Music. Step forward on her Double double tuck and double layout. Insane rock solid tumbling from Mykayla Skinner. Bit iffy on her leap series. Beautiful choreography from Larrissa Miller. Hop forward on her double pike and backwards on her full to double full opening pass. Not a fan of the mesh cut outs under the arms of Fasana's leotard. Hop on her double double tuck to open, short on her double turn with leg up. Aliya Mustafina is the last to go. It was a beautiful routine. She can't believe she won the Bronze! Simone Biles becomes the most decorated U.S. Gymnast at Worlds by winning the Floor title. Larisa Andreea Iordache wins the silver medal.

And now for the final event of the Nanning programme - Men's Horizontal Bar. ZHANG Chenglong starts things off and his grip breaks mid-routine. Peeled off with one hand after his Tak full and had to jump off. Is well over the 30 sec remount time. Solid routine from Kohei Uchimura - just a hop on the landing of his double double layout dismount. Poor Nikolai Kuksenkov, it just isn't his day. Tak full wrong way round but a great stick on his dismount. Colombian Jossimar Orlando Calvo Moreno peels off on his Kolman. Strong finish. Solid routine from Marijo Moznik. The "Flying Dutchman" Epke Zonderland delivers. A few form issues however but massive releases. Very clean routine from Nile Wilson - not as difficult as some of the other routines we have seen in this field though. Solid routine from David Belyavskiy but looked to be a couple of form errors. Zonderland wins over Uchimura and Moznik.
