The 25-year-old presented Kanaeva with a diamond ring, a picture of which she later posted in one of the social networks.

The date for the wedding hasn’t been set, but the ceremony is to take place this September.

Evgenia Kanaeva, the world’s leading rhythmic gymnast, was stunned when she saw stories on her supposed upcoming wedding to hockey player Igor Musatov.

“I have no idea where this information came from,” ITAR-TASS quoted Kanaeva as saying. “My personal life is an issue closed to the public. I’ll never comment on it. But if such an important event like wedding will happen in my life, then the journalists will surely have an opportunity to learn about it and congratulate me – if they’ll want to, of course."

Allhockey.ru previously reported that the two-time Olympic champion gymnast and Mustaov, forward for the Atlant Moscow Region, are engaged and planning to get married in September.

Kanaeva said that she has no plans to settle down since, despite her big Olympic victories, she's still weighing whether she wants to continue training and compete in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

“I needed a little break after London 2012, but it doesn’t mean that I’m going to retire,” the 22-year-old said. “I understand that rhythmic gymnastics is a fleeting sport. Gymnasts don’t stay long in the elite. I'm so far the only two-time all-around Olympic champion. I’ve have managed to perform on top level over for the last years. Will I break the stereotypes and seek my third title at the Olympic Games? I don’t know yet, but anything is possible."

In addition to the two all-around Olympic titles she won the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London games, Kanaeva is a 17-time world champion and nine-time winner of the Summer Universiade.

Team-member Jade Faulkner told BBC Wiltshire: "We've had to split up.
"Unfortunately the funding isn't sufficient so the group can't carry on anymore, and we all had to take a year out of education.
"We will still be training as a group but not as intensely.
"I'll be concentrating on individuals for the Commonwealth Games in two years."
It is not yet known whether British Gymnastics intend to enter a rhythmic team comprising of new gymnasts for Rio 2016.

Fox confirmed on Friday that she was to retire from the sport to concentrate on coaching committments, while Hutchinson, speaking to BBC Somerset, was hopeful the remaining competitiors would be able to secure the funding they need to continue.
"It's not that we've pulled out, it's because there's no programme available," she explained. "The funding hasn't been decided for the next four years.
"One of us has retired but a few of us are training for the individuals at the Commonwealth Games - that's our best option at the moment.
"If there was a group plan, then we would obviously reconsider because everyone wants to compete."

The 23-year-old, who won the all-around title in London earlier this month, said the teenager had chased after him on her bicycle.
"I was scared so I ran into the house and hid," Uchimura told Japanese media. "There's no doubt that was a stalker. I'm happy for the support," added the triple world champion.
"But if you come to my house I'm going to think you're a stalker.
Just three days ago, after an open-top bus parade for Japan's Olympic medallist attracted 500,000 people, Uchimura said he felt "like a celebrity".
Uchimura, already a household name in Japan, captured the Olympic title earlier this month after letting it slip through his fingers in Beijing four years ago.
After attending several official ceremonies and receiving more awards since returning from London, Uchimura had a favour to ask his growing fan base.
"I have to forget London and concentrate on what's next," he said, adding that he had taken to wearing sunglasses to disguise himself while riding his bicycle to training.
"I'm still pretty drained. I'd like the fans to just stick to (seeing me at) the venue."

After 12 years preparing for her first Olympic Games, WAIS gymnast Emily Little will take her time before deciding if she is willing to commit to another four years for Rio de Janeiro.
Post-Olympic soul-searching is nothing new for Australia's sporting elite, but the answers are more complicated for female gymnasts, who also have to consider physical changes which could inhibit their ability to remain in the sport while upgrading their skills for the next Olympic cycle.
At 18, Little was the youngest in the team and has the best chance of extending her career for four more years. Two-times Olympic teammates Lauren Mitchell and Ashleigh Brennan, both 21, and Georgia Bonora, 22, are unlikely to make it to a third Games.
After a week back home from London, Little will be discussing her future with her family and coaches after anchoring Australia's Olympic campaign with a 15th in the individual all-around competition - up from 23rd at last year's world championships.
The team disappointingly slipped in the world rankings from sixth to 10th after crucial mistakes on the floor and beam during team qualifying. But Little was rock solid on all four apparatus.
"It has been a long haul getting to London," she said. "What I have to decide is whether my body will hold up and whether I want to take on the physical and metal challenge of another four years of dedicated training."
Little is also unsure whether she will be too old to compete at elite level at 22, even though there are some outstanding athletes who have remained in the sport well into their 20s.
"I still love learning new skills and that is what would be required to upgrade my routines," she said.
"I produced my best scores at the Olympics but there is room for more improvement."
Little shared the major medals at the New Delhi Commonwealth Games with WAIS training partner Mitchell and could be encouraged to look towards Glasgow in 2014.
But for now she will be spending as much time as possible learning to drive.
"Mum has spent the past 10 years driving me from Armadale to WAIS for training every day and is looking forward to me getting behind the wheel myself," she said.

Twenty-eight Chinese athletes who won gold medals at the London 2012 Olympicshave been honored by the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC) and the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) for their performances at the Games.
On Friday, the CYLC and ACWF released the statements announcing their decision to award "May 4th Youth Medal" to 28 athletes, including table tennis gold medalist Zhang Jike, women's 10m air rifle gold medalist Yi Siling and Ye Shiwen, the 16-year-old swimmer who took two gold medals.
The four teams to win gold -- in men's gymnastics, women's fencing epee as well as men's and women's table tennis -- were honored with the title of "May 4th Youth Medalist Group."
"At the just-concluded London Olympic Games, our country's athletes showcased superior sports skills and tough spirits and achieved world-acclaimed excellent results. They won honors for our country and the people, and greatly stimulated Chinese people's patriotic passion and hardworking spirit," said the statement.
In addition, the ACWF also decided to honor 14 female athletes, including Yi and Ye, with "National March 8 Red-flag Bearer" awards given to model women.

Coach Scott Hann said: “I’m so proud of him aside from my daughter being born to see him get those medals is one of the best things in my life. We just need to get ready for Rio now and turn those bronze medals into golds.” Max added: “Hopefully I can get some new stuff and get picked for the team for Rio. It is something I would love to do but hopefully I can go there. If I do the same as what I’ve done in this Olympics I’ll be happy- but if I could upgrade these medals then that would be absolutely unbelievable. “I’d just like to say thank you to all my family, my coach, my girlfriend they've supported me all this way and helped me get to where I am now so I couldn't thank them enough"

Dalton, who also qualified to compete in last summer’s World Championships, was a third generation Fernley resident before his family moved to the Reno-Sparks area to better pursue his advancing gymnastics career.
His parents, Tim and Denise Dalton, later bought his gymnastics club, Nevada Gymnastics, in order to help continue his training.
“We are so proud of Jake Dalton,” said Mayor Goodman, who also taught his parents at Fernley High School. “There are a lot of little girls and little boys looking at him and saying I want to be like Jake Dalton,” the mayor continued. “Yes, he’s an American hero and he is truly a role model for the people of Fernley.”
