Gymmin' Miel!

The 4th edition of the Abierto Mexicana de Gimnasia will take place from the 4th to the 6th of December at the Fairmont Acapulco Princess in Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico. I am really excited about the twenty Gymnasts who are competing. The competition is split over the two days (5th and 6th) with the competition of both days beginning at 7.00pm (Local Time in Acapulco). This also marks the first International competition back for Australian Emily Little.

After the first day of competition at the third Abierto Mexicano de Gimnasia at the Fairmont Acapulco Princess in Mexico, Peyton Ernst of the United States of America and Colombian Jossimar Calvo Orlando Moreno lead the Women's and Men's All Around standings respectively. Full results are still unknown but here is what I have been able to find so far. Thanks to http://caracteres.mx/definen-preliminares-del-abierto-mexicano-de-gimnasia/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter for the Women's rankings 8-11.

Spain's Roxana Popa Nedelcu had a fantastic second day of competition to take out the Women's title. Maggie Nichols and Peyton Ernst, both of the United States of America finished second and third respectively. Jossimar Orlando Calvo Moreno maintained his lead to win the Men's title, with Russia's Nikita Ignatyev finishing in second and Japan's Koji Uematsu in third. Oksana Chusovitina of Uzbekistan and Koji Uematsu of Japan won the Pairs Competition over Karla Amaranta Torres Nunez of Mexico and Calvo Moreno. Ernst and Ruben Lopez finished in third.

Missing results for Ernst (BB/FX), Angelina Kysla (BB, FX), Ruben Lopez (VT, HB) and Joshua Stuart (VT, PB, HB). Will update when these results are known.

Ana Estefania Lago Serna of Mexico will only be competing on the Uneven Bars unfortunately due to injury. So it's Brenna Dowell of the United States and Oleg Verniaiev of Ukraine in the lead after one rotation. It's a Pommel Horse rotation full of falls! Good on Ana for getting out there and performing her Uneven Bars routine minus her dismount. Hope you are okay and sending wishes of a speedy recovery her way. And after the first day, it is Dowell over Yessenia Estrada Martinez (MEX) and Georgia Rose Brown of Australia in third. And for the Men, it's Oleg Verniaiev over Russian David Belyavskiy and Daniel Purvis of Great Britain.

Day Two is set to get underway soon!

Brenna Dowell wins the Women's AA Title over Yessenia Estrada Martinez of Mexico and Anna Dementyeva of Russia! And for the Men, it is Oleg Verniaiev of Ukraine over David Belyavskiy (RUS) and Sergio Sasaki Junior of Brazil.

The Inaugural Copa Juvenil de Gimnasia which sees some of the best gymnasts - both Men's Artistic and Women's Artistic - from Mexico take to the competition floor is happening right now! Check back here for semi-live scores. Poor Andrea Gonzalez of Monterrey, did not finish her floor routine due to injury - sending our best wishes her way. Well done to the winners of the competition, unfortunately full detailed results are still unavailable.

On the Sixth Day of Christmas, Gymnastics Brought to Me: The Pan American Games Floor Champion!

ANA ESTEFANIA LAGO SERNA (MEXICO)

Image courtesy of Getty Images and sourced on News.daylife.com. It's been a busy year for Mexican Ana Estefania Lago Serna. The sixteen-year-old who joined the Senior ranks in 2011 has made quite a splash. Lago was a member of the Mexican teams at the World Championships and the Pan American Games this year - who placed 17th and third respectively. At the Pan American Games, Ana finished 10th in the All Around, scoring 52.450, and finished first on the Floor Exercise with 13.800 - becoming the first Mexican Women to win a gold medal in Artistic Gymnastics at the Pan American Games. In Tokyo for the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in October, Ana came 47th in the All Around scoring 52.732, coming 122nd on the Uneven Bars (11.533), 43rd on the Balance Beam (13.766) and 28th on the Floor Exercise (13.733). And according to the nominative registration for next month's Olympic Test Event, Lago is expected to be competing, alongside veteran Elsa Garcia Rodriguez Blancas. Good luck Ana!!
