Gymmin' Miel!

The 2015 Northern European Gymnastics Championships were held on the 19th and 20th of September at the University of Limerick in Ireland.The Men's team from Ireland won the Team Title at the 2015 North European Artistic Gymnastics Championships. The team consisting of Kieran Behan, Andrew Smith, Jack Neill, Rohan Sebastian and Rhys McClenaghan were 2.5 points winners over Norway with the contingent from Finland finishing in third. Whilst on the Women's side, the Welsh team were 3.2 point winners over Ireland with Iceland in third. Sebastian was initially scheduled to compete as a guest but an injury to Daniel Fox saw him come into the team. Norway's Stian Skjerahaug topped Behan and Smith to win the All Around title whilst for the Women, Welsh gymnast Latalia Bevan took out the All Around over Ellis O'Reilly of Ireland with Jolie Ruckley of Wales rounding out the top three.

The second day saw the Event Finals take place, with Norway's Stian Skjerahaug leading the way taking three titles (Still Rings, Parallel Bars and Horizontal Bar) and Latalia Bevan of Wales earning both the Balance Beam and Floor Exercise titles. Iceland's Norma Dogg Robertsdottir topped compatriot Sigridur Hronn Bergthorsdottir for the Vault title with Marie Skammelsen of Denmark earning the bronze. Iceland's Irina Sazonova topped Ruckley of Wales and Casey Bell of Ireland for the Uneven Bars whilst on the Balance Beam O'Reilly and Skammelsen rounded out the top three. Scotland's Louise McColgan was the silver medalist on the Floor Exercise with Sazonova earning the bronze. Ireland's Kieran Behan earned the Floor Exercise title over Christopher Soos of Sweden and Pietro Giachino of Norway, whilst on the Pommel Horse Jac Davies of Wales triumphed over Finland's Juho Kanerva with McClenaghan finishing in third. Behan added the silver on the Still Rings to his medal haul with Michael Trane of Sweden earning the bronze. Finland's Emil Soravuo topped compatriot Aaro Lamberg for the Vault title with Eythor Orn Baldursson of Ireland earning the bronze. Ireland's Andrew Smith was second on the Parallel Bars with Marcus Conradi in third whilst on the Horizontal Bar Heikki Niva of Finland and Trane rounded out the medal placings.

The 2013 Northern European Artistic Gymnastics Championships were contested at the City of Lisburn Salto National Gymnastics Center on the 23rd and 24th of November. The Women's Team from Wales consisting of Elizabeth Beddoe, Georgina Hockenhull, Jessica Hogg, Rebecca Moore and Rhyannon Jones triumphed over the teams from Scotland (Amy Regan, Cara Kennedy, Carly Smith, Emma White and Erin McLachlan) and Northern Ireland (Casey Bell, Emma Gorman, India McPeak, Nicole Mawhinney and Sarah Beck). Hockenhull and Regan were the joint winners of the All Around title with Elizabeth Beddoe finishing 1.5 points behind the gold medalists to take the bronze medal. Regan added two more titles, garnering the Vault and Floor Exercise titles. Northern Ireland's Casey Bell finished second on the Vault, with Scotland's Erin McLachlan rounding out the top three. Bell tied with Finland's Anna Erika Pakkala for the Uneven Bars with Emma White of Scotland taking out the bronze medal, whilst on the Balance Beam, Scotland's Erin McLachlan topped Regan and Norway's Martine Skregelid for the honors. McLachlan and Bell finished second and third respectively on the Floor Exercise. 

The team from Finland, consisting of Heikki Niva, Juho Kanerva, Karl Oskar Kirmes, Markku Vahtila and Tomi Tuuha triumphed by a massive three points to take the Men's Team title. The Scottish contingent (Andrew Mackie, Daniel Iley, Daniel Keatings, Liam Davie and Tom Barnes) held off Norway (Stian Skjerahaug, Haakon Andreassen, Lars Jorgen Fjeld, Nikolay Nilsen Ronbeck and Steffen Kristensen) by a further 3.65 points. Skjerahaug picked up the All Around honors by 0.75 of a point over Finland's Karl Oskar Kirmes with Welshman Clinton Purnell finishing in third. Ireland's Christopher O'Connor won the Floor Exercise honors over Purnell and Kirmes, whilst on the Pommel Horse, Juho Kanerva triumphed with Keatings and Skjerahaug rounding out the top three. Markku Vahtila dominated on the Still Rings with Clinton Purnell of Wales and Norway's Lars Jorgen Fjeld finishing second and third respectively. Tomi Tuhha won the Vault title with Andreassen and Ossur Debes Eiriksfoss of the Faroe Islands tying for second place. Stian Skjerahaug won the Parallel Bars honors over Niva and Grant Gardiner of Wales whilst Liam Davie won the Horizontal Bar title. Sweden's Pontus Kallanvaara and Skjerahaug rounded out the top three.

Iceland's Olafur Gunnarsson and Tinna Odinsdottir picked up silver medals

Sweden's Emma Larsson picked up two Gold medals on the final day of competition at the 2012 Northern European Artistic Gymnastics Championships. Larsson took out the Vault title over Scotland's Amy Regan and Welsh competitor Keira Brennan. Whilst on the Uneven Bars, Larsson triumphed by 0.250 over Angel Romaeo, with Ida Gustafsson of Sweden picking up the bronze medal. Welsh gymnast Jessica Hogg also picked up the remaining two Gold medals - Balance Beam and Floor Exercise. The silver medal on the Balance Beam was shared by Iceland's Tinna Odinsdottir and Georgina Hockenhull of Wales, whilst Romaeo picked up the silver medal on the Floor Exercise, with Sweden's Lovisa Estberg earning herself the bronze medal. Emma Lunn of Ireland was called up to the Floor Final with half an hour to go before the competition to replace Carly Smith of Scotland.

A different gymnast picked up each of the Men's Event Finals! Tomi Tuuha won the Floor Exercise honors with his compatriot Kasper Holopainen taking out the silver medal over Norway's Lars Jorgen Fjeld. All Around winner Helge Vammen of Denmark was the top on the Pommel Horse with Iceland's Olafur Gunnarsson and Finland's Markku Vahtila rounding out the top three. Vahtila was the standout performer on the Still Rings with Clinton Purnell of Wales and Tuuha coming second and third respectively. Purnell won the Vault honors over Tuuha and Carl Green of Sweden. Heikki Niva of Finland won the Parallel Bars Event Final over Norwegians Haakon Andreassen and Joachim Hanche-Olsen, who were the silver and bronze medalists respectively. Hanche-Olsen also won the Gold on Horizontal Bar with Scotland's Liam Davie winning the silver medal and Oskar Kirmes winning the bronze medal. Norwegian Lars Jorgen Fjeld replaced compatriot Lars Planke in the Vault Final, whilst in the Parallel Bars Final, the winner, Finland's Niva replaced compatriot Kasper Holopainen who had qualified ahead of Niva, whilst Scotland's Liam Davie replaced Lars Planke (NOR) in the Horizontal Bar final.

The competition has gotten underway in Glasgow, Scotland at the 2012 Northern European Artistic Gymnastics Championships. The Welsh Women's team (Angel Romaeo, Georgina Hockenhull, Jessica Hogg, Keira Brennan and Raer Theaker) won the Team Title with the Swedish and Scottish teams claiming the silver and bronze medals respectively. Ida Gustafsson of Sweden, successfully defended her Northern European All Around title over Romaeo and compatriot Emma Larsson. Larsson also topped the Vault Qualification, with Gustafsson leading on the Uneven Bars. Welsh representatives Georgina Hockenhull and Angel Romaeo were the leaders on the Balance Beam and Uneven Bars respectively.

For the Men, Finland finished on top, with Norway in second and Denmark in third. Helge Vammen of Denmark took out the the Men's All Around honors with Clinton Purnell of Wales coming second, only 0.500 behind Vammen. Finland's Kasper Holopainen was the bronze medalist. Finland's Tomi Tuuha was the highest qualifier to the Floor Exercise, and Vault Event Finals, whilst Denmark's Helge Vammen was the top scorer on the Pommel Horse and Parallel Bars. Finland's Markku Vahtila was top on the Still Rings, with compatriot Heikki Niva top scoring on the Horizontal Bar with Clinton Purnell of Wales.

The 2012 Northern European Gymnastics Championships will be held in Glasgow, Scotland from the 21st to the 22nd of October. The brand new Emirates Arena, built for the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games will play host to the competition, which sees both Women's Artistic Gymnasts and Men's Artistic Gymnasts take part. According to the article at AllMediaScotland.com (see here) "Glasgow Life granted use of the new Arena as a test event to support Scottish Gymnastics Association preparation towards Glasgow Commonwealth Games  2014." Gymnasts from The Isle of Man, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Finland, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland and Denmark are set to be competing. And away we go: Well done to Mans Stenberg and Kristoffer Alvern Andersen of Norway who tied for the gold on Floor Exercise. And to the two Finnish men (Kanerva and Niva) who tied for gold on Pommel Horse. Man's Stenberg has picked up his second gold (this time on Still Rings), whilst compatriot Kim Singmuang has taken out the vault title over Jessica Hogg of Wales and Mia Furu of Denmark. Jonna Adlerteg and Ida Gustafsson have gone 1-2 on the Uneven Bars over Keira Brennan of Wales. Clinton Purnell of Wales dominated the Men's Vault scoring 15.200 average, over Norwegian Stian Skjerahaug and  Sweden's Toni Simonen. Well done to Brennan who has taken out the Beam title over Norwegian Tina Madeleine Larsen and Swedish star Jonna Adlerteg who tied with surprise packet Cara Kennedy of Scotland for the bronze. Heikki Niva top scored on the Parallel Bars taking his second gold medal over Skjerahaug and Simonen. Welsh competitor Elizabeth Beddoe won the floor exercise title by 0.35 from Scotland's Holly Ramage who took the silver over surprise Icelandic bronze medallist Hildur Olafsdottir. And Niva won the Horizontal Bar honours over Skjerahaug and Clinton Purnell.

The 2011 Northern European Gymnastics Championships will take place in Uppsala, Sweden from the 11th to 13th of November. India McPeak of Northern Ireland seems to be missing from the Live Results Page. Is she injured? Last year Welsh competitors Jessica Hogg and Grant Gardiner, won the all around titles..... can they do it again this year? Hogg will also be hoping to retain her Vault title, whilst Finland's Rosanna Ojala will be hoping to retain her Uneven Bars title. Welsh woman Angel Romaeo is not competing this year - leaving the Balance Beam and Floor honours to whomever grabs them. For the men, Finland's Juho Kanerva wull be hoping to win another Pommel Horse title, whilst Gardiner will hope the Vault and Parallel Bars are good to him, with Epsen Jansen of Norway looking to retain the Horizontal Bar title.
