The daughter of WA burns expert Fiona Wood never felt like she had to jump up and down to get noticed - it just happened that way.

A second-year dentistry student, Evie Kierath, 17, leapt on to the international stage last year when she won the world junior trampolining championship in England.

She started trampolining in Year 9 and quickly rose through the ranks, training every day and competing in open divisions to test herself.

"I'd just stopped doing gymnastics, I wanted to try something new and trampolining was a lot of fun," she said.

"There are always new skills to learn and something new you can do."

Despite being the daughter of one of Australia's most brilliant minds, she said she did not feel pressure to follow in her mother's footsteps.

"Going into the medical field was kind of a no-brainer," she said.

"Both of my parents are in medicine and that's just what I'm interested in anyway."

Evie said she was looking forward to competing alongside Olympians Lauren Mitchell, Emily Little and Janine Murray at the inaugural Chetkovich Cup at Challenge Stadium on October 26.

A fitness advocate, Dr Wood said the Chetkovich Cup would showcase WA's world-class gymnastics talent in an exciting format.

Meanwhile, Wilden has that very cool double-wing trampoline, which is probably still too bizarre for the X-Games, much less the Summer Olympics.
"I love it," he says, smiling. "I love learning how to do fun things. That wing-to-wing is something that changes your perception of gravity."
Transitioning from the demands of athletic competition to the more artistic demands of show business wasn't that difficult, Kudrevich says, although it was different.
Orzata says he had to learn performance and acting skills - for example, "not to be ashamed and basically (to) forget your fears and perform who you are" - for his roles in "Love" and his other Cirque shows.
Of course, the athletes are used to others watching as they perform. But, Wilden says, becoming accustomed to performing in front of a few thousand people at once took a bit of time.
But, he adds, now, after having performed in front of so many Cirque audiences, "I think I could go into competition now better than I could before, because I'm not nervous anymore."
In fact, Wilden says, "I'm excited. You can feel the crowd. When people say energy flows from the crowd, I guess until you've had thousands come and watch you, it's something that really doesn't make sense."
It also was odd, Orzata says, to substitute for the exacting precision competitive gymnastics requires to the less-rigid demands of art.
"I think at the beginning it was strange to move from (these) straight lines that gymnastics has - very focused all the time, very precise, very concentrated - and go more into art," he says.

“You never really know what’s going to happen when you get up there,” she said. “I’ve been in the sport 13 years. I’m still learning new skills.”
This year, Poliaroush said he looks for Savannah Vinsant to have a good time at the Olympics and get a good feel for the level of competition. Four years from now, he says he expects her to compete for an Olympic medal.
Savannah Vinsant won all three of the Olympic qualifying meets. She will join Steven Gluckstein of Atlantic Highlands, N.J., representing Team USA.
“The Olympic Games is one of the most unpredictable events in the world, and anything can happen,” Savannah Vinsant said.
“I’m going to go to London and give it everything I have. You never know.”

Australian Olympic Trampoline reserve, Shaun Swadling (Newcastle), has been forced to withdraw from his non-travelling reserve commitments after injuring himself at training last night.
Swadling dislocated his knee at training in Adelaide yesterday, and was transported to Flinders Medical Centre where he was assessed and the dislocation was corrected.

Adam Sachs, High Performance Manager for Gymnastics Australia, said Swadling had suffered major soft tissue injury but no bone injury has been sustained.

“Shaun spent the night under observation but is likely to be released this morning following advice from medical staff. Our main priority is focusing on Shaun’s recovery and ensuring he has the proper support,” said Sachs.

Gymnastics Australia will look to name a replacement non-travelling reserve within a week.
