Gymmin' Miel!

Japan's Kohei Uchimura won his sixth consecutive World Championships All Around title last night in Glasgow! He did it in style too by earning the top score on the Floor Exercise on his way to winning by 1.634 points over Cuba's Manrique Larduet Bicet. This is the first World Championships for Larduet Bicet and he has certainly impressed! His score on the Horizontal Bar was the highest of the evening. DENG Shudi of China became the first Chinese gymnast since 2007 to place on the podium in the All Around competition and proved his steadiness on all six apparatuses. Ukraine's Oleg Verniaiev had to count a mistake on the Floor Exercise and a fall on the Pommel Horse to finish in fourth place whilst Great Britain's Max Whitlock had to count a fall on the Horizontal Bar. Russian Nikolai Kuksenkov and Great Britain's Daniel Purvis had a solid competition to finish sixth and seventh respectively. Originally billed as the second reserve, U.S.A's Donnell Whittenburg came into the final to replace Belarussian Dzmitry Barkalau and made the most of his opportunity to finish in eighth place. Belgium's Florian Landuyt who was the first reserve was also added to the final, in order to replace Germany's Fabian Hambuechen. Unfortunately Landuyt, who was making his World Championships debut this year tore his achilles whilst attempting a double double on the Floor Exercise - best wishes to Florian for a speedy recovery. American Danell Leyva who qualified to the final with the third highest score and who celebrated his Birthday yesterday had a disappointing day putting his hands down on his opening tumbling pass on the Floor, and having problems throughout his Pommel Horse and then coming off during his Horizontal Bar. Whitlock was the top scorer with Whittenburg topping the Still Rings standings. Verniaiev and Larduet Bicet earned the high score on the Parallel Bars and Horizontal Bar respectively.

Tea Ugrin of Italy replaced her compatriot Vanessa Ferrari who unfortunately has suffered a flare up of her tendonitis. United States of America's Simone Biles joined the elite company of Svetlana Khorkina (1997, 2001, 2003) to win three All Around World Championship titles and became the only one to win it three years consecutively. Comeback queen Gabrielle Douglas finished second with Romanian Larisa Andreea Iordache redeeming herself from qualification by earned the bronze medal. It was a mistake laden final with the balance beam proving it's reputation of being the fickle apparatus. Biles had to save a punch front on Beam and went out of bounds during the Floor Exercise but it was enough to win the gold. China's SHANG Chunsong had a solid competition but a low scoring Vault saw her finish out of the medals. 2015 European Champion Giulia Steingruber of Switzerland had a fantastic competition but also had an unfortunate slip off the Beam. It was a solid day for Japan's Mai Murakami whilst Canadian Elsabeth Black bettered her ranking from last year despite falling out of her opening turn and having a bobble on one of her acro series and falling off on the other. Biles was the top scorer on the Vault and Floor Exercise whilst Iordache and Germany's Elisabeth Seitz were the top scorers on the Balance Beam and Uneven Bars respectively.

A little catch up of the results from yesterday's Men's All Around Final. Ukraine's Oleg Verniaiev won the Men's All Around title at the 2015 Gwangju Universiade by a massive 2.8 points over Japan's Shogo Nonomura. Akash Modi of the United States of America won the bronze medal. Reserves Daniil Kazachkov and Turkey's Ibrahim Colak replaced Fabian Hambuechen of Germany and LEE Hyeokjung of the Republic of Korea in the final. Japan's Naoto Hayasaka was the top scorer on the Floor Exercise, whilst China's CEN Yu top scored on the Vault. Verniaiev recorded the top mark on the Still Rings, Parallel Bars and Horizontal Bar.

RESULTS:

Tonight sees the Women's All Around Final at the 28th Gwangju Universiade being contested at the Kwangju Women's University Universiade Gymnasium. Portugal's Ana Filipa Martins was the highest qualifier to the final topping Russian Polina Fedorova and Great Britain's Kelly Simm. However it was a closely fought qualification so it could be anyone's title for the taking. I love the pink suits that the judges are wearing. Blue leotard with diamantes and red v's down the sleeves and at the top for Kelly Simm. Emma Jane Nedov is wearing the red/black Australian leotard, whilst Farah Ann Abdul Hadi is wearing the purple and black leotard with the silver. Love Ana Filipa Martins' leotard - white with black metallicy sleeves with greeny/aqua/turquoise swirls. Blue leotard with white sleeves and diamante patterning for Fedorova. Big hop forward on the Bars dismount for Dilnoza Abdusalimova (green leotard with diamantes), whilst big hop back for Farah Ann Abdul Hadi for her vault. Loooove Daria Yelizarova's leotard. Elisabeth Geurts wears blue leotard with diamante, white sleeves and red collar. Simple deep blue leotard with black V at the top and on part of the shoulders with diamantes for Norway's Sofie Braaten - very elegant looking. Sits down her landing but she's still laughing and smiling. Very detailed and colorful leotards for the Republic of Korea gymnasts - my favorites! Red leotard with silver patterning for the Japanese gymnasts. Simple yet elegant leotard for Simone Penker who is representing Austria but is a member of the University of Alaska-Anchorage Gymnastics team. Stunningly colored leotard with black sleeves for Tracie Ang who replaces Tan Ing Yueh in the final. After one rotation, Kelly Simm leads over Japan's Asuka Teramoto and Yelizarova.

Fall for Emma Jane Nedov on the Beam and a fall for Daria Yelizarova on the Uneven Bars. Aquaey queen leotard with patterning on the sleeves for Mexico's Mariana Vazquez Beristain who had a couple of falls from the Balance Beam. Solid Bars routine for HEO Seon Mi. Sensational Bars routine from Kelly Simm but took awhile for her score to come through. It's really lovely to see athletes from other sports watching in the stands. Unfortunately Claudia Cummins has to count a couple of falls on the Beam - she is in a sleeveless red leotard with pink swirls - sits down her dismount. At the halfway mark, Simm leads over Teramoto with HEO Seon Mi of the Republic of Korea moving into third.

With one rotation to go Simm still maintains the lead over Japan's Teramoto and Sasada.

Slight bobble on Martins' final tumbling pass.

And it is official - Kelly Simm wins the All Around title over Japan's Asuka Teramoto and Natsumi Sasada. Congratulations to all! 

This afternoon sees the Women take to the competition floor to contest the Women's All Around Final. Can I just say how great it is to see so many spectators filling the stands. Unfortunately the full results will not be available until shortly after the competition and I will update these as soon as possible. Vietnam's PHAN Thi Ha Thanh is wearing the green/deep aqua bodied leotard with diamante pattern with the black mesh sleeves that we so commonly see her wear. The gymnasts from Singapore Nadine Joy Nathan and Janessa Dai Min Yi are both wearing red leotards with swirls and diamante patterning. Farah Ann Abdul Hadi is wearing a leotard half blue (or is it purple?) and half with a mesh sleeve with white patterning and very shiny! Indonesia's Rifda Irfanalutfi is wearing a predominately black leotard with a silver sleeve and gold patterning whilst Tan Ing Yueh is in a purple leotard with diamantes around the collar and wrists and gorgeous patterning on the back.

Just a step out on the landing for PHAN. Gorgeous vault from Nadine Joy Nathan. Solid vault landing off to one side for Farah Ann. It took them a long time to decide Janessa Dai Min Yi's score. Rifda Irfanalutfi's vault was so close to the table! Big hop backwards for Tan Ing Yueh. Solid routine on the Bars for Ava Lorein Verdeflor who is wearing a predominately purple leotard with black sleeves. Predominately purple 3/4 sleeved leotard for Vietnam's DO Thi Van Anh with black mesh in there and pink flame pattern. It's actually quite lovely. Had to wait a long time to get started. Poor DO that long wait did not help. Has to count a fall and had a really mess start to the routine. Both Thailand gymnasts are wearing sleeveless leotards. Praewpraw is in a blue leotard with purple and pink swirls on the front. Had a bit of leg separation throughout her routine, and sat down on her dismount. Kanyanat Boontoeng was the gymnast who DO had to wait for the score to come through for. Boontoeng wears a black leotard with white sides which has red patterning to separate the black from the white - landed on her knees and head for the dismount. PHAN leads Farah Ann Abdul Hadi and Rifda Irfanalutfi after the first rotation.

Good Bars routine for Nadine Joy Nathan. Was a gorgeous routine but Farah Ann Abdul Hadi sits down her dismount. Solid routine for Irfanalutfi. Fall on release for Tan Ing Yueh and hop back on dismount. Solid routine from PHAN. Stunning black leotard with mesh sleeves and diamantes for Elizabeth LeDuc. Unfortunate fall on beam. Few bobbles in Verdeflor's routine. PHAN still leads over Abdul Hadi and Singapore's Nadine Joy Nathan at the halfway mark.

A fall from Farah Ann on the Balance Beam but finishes solidly. Beautiful Floor routine from Ava Lorein Verdeflor. Two falls from Janessa Dai Min Yi on the Beam. Irfanalutfi seems to jump off the Beam - maybe she did not feel secure on her landing, lovely routine otherwise. A couple of bobbles but a nice routine from Tan Ing Yueh. Big save but PHAN shows how it's done! Solid routine with a fall from Nadine Joy Nathan. Love Elizabeth LeDuc's floor routine!! PHAN still leads over Abdul Hadi and Nadine Joy Nathan.

And it's official PHAN Thi Ha Thanh takes the All Around title over Malaysia's Farah Ann Abdul Hadi and Nadine Joy Nathan of Singapore.

Vietnam's DINH Phuong Thanh outclassed the field to take out the 2015 Southeast Asian Games Men's All Around title by 0.9 points over compatriot PHAM Phuoc Hung. Singapore's Gabriel Gan Zi Jie won the bronze medal. DINH Phuong Thanh top scored on the Floor Exercise, Vault (joint top score with Thailand's Weena Chokpaoumpai), Parallel Bars and Horizontal Bar on his way to earning the title. PHAM Phuoc Hung who was the top qualifier to the final had to count a fall during his Pommel Horse routine but was the top performer on the Still Rings. Thailand's Jamorn Prommanee was the top scorer on the Pommel Horse. Indonesia's Agus Adi Prayoko who had qualified for today's final did not compete.

Japan's Kohei Uchimura put on an incredible display of Gymnastics as he won his fifth consecutive World Championships All Around title in Nanning last night. Great Britain's Max Whitlock was the receiver of some great fortune as he replaced compatriot Nile Wilson in the Final - Wilson has been competing with a wrist injury and made the decision to withdraw - and won the silver medal! Yusuke Tanaka was the bronze medalist with thanks to a successful appeal as to the Difficulty score he received on his Pommel Horse routine early in the competition. Uchimura was the top scorer on the Floor Exercise and Vault, whilst Whitlock dominated on the Pommel Horse. Tanaka earned the top mark on the Horizontal Bar with Ukraine's Oleg Verniaiev receiving the top score on the Parallel Bars. American Donnell Whittenburg was the top scorer on the Still Rings. Turkey's Ferhat Arican replaced Israel's Alexander Shatilov in the Final. 

China's YAO Jinnan top scored on the Vault, Uneven Bars and Floor Exercise to take the Women's All Around title at the 17th Asian Games in Incheon. Jinnan's team mate SHANG Chunsong was the high scorer on the Balance Beam and recorded the second top score on the Uneven Bars as she earned the silver medal. The Republic of Korea's own YUN Narae rallied to take the bronze medal and also recorded the second highest scores on the Vault and Floor Exercise and the third top scores on the Uneven Bars and Balance Beam (tied with Japan's Azumi Ishikura). Japan's Yuriko Yamamoto was the third highest scorer on the Vault and Floor Exercise. The Democratic People's Republic of Korea's HONG Un Jong who finished sixth in the All Around Qualifications did not compete, whilst Uzbekistan's Yelena Rega replaced her compatriot Asal Saparbaeva in the Final.

RESULTS:

Russian Irina Annenkova once again top scored with the Hoop, Ball and Clubs on her way to winning the Youth Olympic Games Individual All Around title. Maryia Trubach of Belarus managed to hold off American Laura Yihan Zeng by 0.200 points to capture the silver medal. Ana Luiza Filiorianu of Romania finished in fourth after scoring the top mark with the Ribbon.

INDIVIDUAL ALL AROUND FINAL (HOOP, BALL, CLUBS, RIBBON):

Great Britain's Giarnni Regini-Moran dominated in the Men's All Around final at the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympic Games. Regini-Moran was triumphant by 1.675 points over Russian Nikita Nagornyy with Alec Yoder of the United States of America finishing with the bronze medal. Regini-Moran's high score on the Floor Exercise (14.900), Vault (14.850 also scored by Nagornyy) and Parallel Bars (14.400) aided in his gold medal performance. Alec Yoder high scored on the Pommel Horse (14.100) and the Horizontal Bar 13.850 along with Japan's Kenya Yuasa). Ma Yue of China was the highest scorer on the Still Rings (14.000).

MEN'S ALL AROUND FINAL:

The Rhythmic Gymnastics All Around competition is about to get underway at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games at the SSE Hydro. During yesterday's qualifications, Canadian Patricia Bezzoubenko top scored with three apparatuses to qualify highest to today's Final. Welsh gymnast Francesca Jones and Cyprus' Themida Christodoulidou qualified with the second and third highest totals respectively.

Shaky start to Bezzoubenko's All Around campaign. After the first apparatus, Welsh gymnast Laura Halford leads over Malaysia's Wong Poh San, Francesca Jones of Wales and Pantelitsa Theodoulou of Cyprus who are tied for second place. Bezzoubenko sits in fifth. After two rotations, Bezzoubenko has moved into first with Laura Halford and Francesca Jones sitting second and third respectively. Drop of a Club during Patricia Bezzoubenko's routine and she was looking a lot more confident than what she had with the previous two apparatuses. With one apparatus remaining, Canadian Bezzoubenko remains in the lead, can she hold on for the Gold Medal? Jones and Halford still round out the top three places.

And it's Canadian Patricia Bezzoubenko wins the Gold over Wales Gymnasts Francesca Jones and Laura Halford who win silver and bronze respectively.

ALL AROUND FINAL RESULTS (HOOP, BALLS, CLUBS, RIBBON):

Great Britain's Nile Wilson earned the Junior All Around honors at the 2014 European Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria overnight. Russian Valentin Starikov won the silver medal with Brinn Bevan of Great Britain earning the bronze medal. Wilson was the top scorer on the Floor Exercise, Pommel Horse and Horizontal Bar with Bevan earning the top marks on the Still Rings and Starikov on the Vault (tied with Belgian Florian Landuyt) and Parallel Bars. 

RESULTS:

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Gymnastics team successfully won their third consecutive NCGA National Championships team title in the Ben Light Gymnastics on the Ithaca College Campus on the first day of competition. The State University of New York-Cortland finished in second place with The State University of New York-Brockport in third. UW-Whitewater and Cortland both finished with school record totals, plus it was Cortland's first time as runner-up since 2003. UW-Whitewater Freshman Katie Fiorilli made school history not only recording the highest All Around total in the school's history but also becoming the first Gymnast in the program's history to take out the All Around title. The runner up in the All Around was the University of Wisconsin-Stout's Junior Katherine Prouty who broke the school's record in the All Around in doing so. Krystal Walker, a Sophomore on the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh team finished third in the All Around. 

Event Finals take place today beginning at 4.00pm (local time). The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater's Cierra Talcott will be hoping to defend the Uneven Bars title she won last year. Stephanie Schuler of The State University of New York-Brockport who won the Balance Beam title last year and Hannah Lee of UW-Whitewater will be competing in the Balance Beam final after initially missing out as replacement athletes for the injured Kari Willett (UW-La Crosse). Courtney Benson of Hamline University will be hoping to recapture the Floor Exercise title she won last year.

Spain's Carolina Rodriguez Ballesteros won the Rhythmic Gymnastics All Around title at the 2013 Mediterranean Games in Mersin, Turkey. Rodriguez top scored with the Hoop, Clubs and Ribbon and tied with Varvara Filiou of Greece for the high mark with the Ball. Filiou earned the silver medal whilst Frenchwoman Kseniya Moustafaeva won the bronze medal.

The University of Michigan won the 2013 Men's NCAA Gymnastics National Championships Team Final by 3.1 points over the University of Oklahoma. Stanford University finished in third. Michigan's Samuel Mikulak topped team mate Adrian de los Angeles and Stanford's Eddie Penev for the All Around title. Top scorers on each event were: Trevor Howard (Penn State) on Floor Exercise; Oklahoma's Michael Reid on the Pommel Horse and team mates Michael Squires and Alec Robin on the Still Rings and Vault respectively. Stanford's Brian Knott and Mikulak top scored on the Parallel Bars and Horizontal Bar respectively.

Great Britain's Max Whitlock topped the Qualifications and the question on everyone's mind is can he repeat today? Or will it be one of the Ukrainian or Russian men who take out the title? Or will one of the others come through? Dutchman Michel Bletterman replaces Belarussian Artsiom Bykau. After Rotation One, Russian David Belyavskiy leads over Armenia's Artur Davtyan and Spain's Fabian Gonzalez. At the conclusion of the second rotation, Belyavskiy leads from Ukrainian Oleg Verniaiev and Great Britain's Max Whitlock. At the halfway point, Verniaiev leads over Belyavskiy and fellow Ukrainian Oleg Stepko. After four rotations, it's Belyavskiy, Verniaiev and Whitlock in that order, which make up the top three. Heading into the final rotation, it's Russian David Belyavskiy who has the lead over Max Whitlock (GBR) and Ukraine's Oleg Verniaiev. Russian Belyavskiy wins the All Around title with Great Britain's Max Whitlock and Ukraine's Oleg Verniaiev earning the silver and bronze medals respectively. MEN'S ALL AROUND FINAL:

The Chinese Women's team consisting of WU Liufang, LUO Peiru, LI Yiting, ZENG Siqi, HUANG Huidan and SHANG Chunsong were triumphant at the 5th Senior Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships. The teams from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Japan rounded out the top three. China's ZENG Siqi won the All Around title with Korean SUNG Ji-Hye earning the silver medal whilst SHANG Chunsong won the bronze medal. Majority of the full All Around results are below, however the Kazakhstan gymnasts are missing from the list. The Democratic People's Republic of Korea's HONG Un Jong topped the Vault qualification, China's HUANG Huidan dominated on the Uneven Bars, with compatriot ZENG Siqi rocking on the Balance Beam and Japan's Risa Konishi qualifying highest to the Floor Exercise final.

The Artistic Gymnastics program continues this evening (Thursday) with the Women's All Around Final. The competition gets underway at the North Greenwich Arena at 4.30pm UTC. Can the leader from the Qualifications - Russian Victoria Komova pull it off again or will American Alexandra Raisman or compatriot Gabrielle 'Flying Squirrel' Douglas come up trumps? Could Russian Aliya Mustafina win? How about China's DENG Linlin or HUANG Qiushuang? What about Italian Vanessa Ferrari or maybe a surprise upset by Japan's top qualifier to the final, Asuka Teramoto? Romanian Larisa Andreea Iordache may be carrying an injury but could she find the strength to pull off a win? Or could it be another member of the twenty-four women field? All I know is that it is set to be a fabulous night of Gymnastics. I could not get to complete live scores for the Men, but I will definitely be around for the Women!

After Rotation One: It's Gabby Douglas in the lead over Alexandra Raisman and Victoria Komova of Russia. At the halfway point it is still Gabby Douglas in the lead with the two Russians - Komova and Aliya Mustafina in second and third respectively. Raisman in fourth. Heading into the final rotation it's Douglas! over the Russians still!!

GABBY DOUGLAS IS THE OLYMPIC AA CHAMPION!!! KOMOVA WINS THE SILVER MEDAL! Mustafina receives the bronze medal over Raisman on a tiebreaker.
